the one with the headband

my sister, sarah, and i spent 6 weeks in ethiopia in the summer of 2008. it was an incredible experience and we are so grateful that we were able to go. during our time there, we came up with some weird habits in order to adapt to the new climate, culture, language, etc.

one of the ways we adapted: we started wearing headcoverings over our ears at night so that we wouldn't wake up to the sound of flies zooming in and out of our ear canal and scaring the living daylight out of us. it was truly hilarious and we even captured it on video...

this video really is mostly for you, sarah, because i dont think it will be funny to anyone else :)

in that video, there is proof of a sweet little pink headband. we joke in the video that it is from the 80's because i swore to sarah that i had that headband since 4th grade. whether she believed me or not, it certainly looked like it was from the 80's so we accepted it as fact.

last week i was home looking for some old journals of mine underneath my old bed...and i discovered something glorious!

check me out...classy close-lipped smile, sweet pose, classic pleated shorts...

even better...check out this date on the back of the picture...

i can't tell you how happy it made me to find this picture! i have never kept up with ANYTHING for that long...i mean 17 years is seriously impressive. (and im sure now that i've realized it and will want to keep up with it forever, i will definitely lose it....hence this blog post :))

so in honor of the headband that won't quit...

here's to another 17 years!
