the one with an update on sweet baby boy

i hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving holiday this past week :) ours was fantastic - much needed rest and downtime, as well as plenty of time to reflect on what we have to be thankful for.

i also wanted to give y'all a quick update on sweet baby boy. he really is such a fighter and i think it's safe to say that many of us have fallen in love with this little boy :) there is much to be thankful for and praise God for hearing our prayers - he is stable, he had a central line put in with no complications, and his parents report that his nurses & doctors are seeing the effects of our specific prayers making a difference. thank you for praying with us!

sweet boy

here's a brief note from the parents to give you more of an idea...
The last two days have gone forward with little to no problem. From what we are learning in the nicu, this is a rare occasion. It is a very interesting environment in the neonatal icu. Every few minutes you can hear the sound of alarms telling the nurses that a certain baby is not breathing rightly, or that another baby’s heart has slowed down drastically. Every time you hear the bells you catch yourself hoping it is not your baby, and then you recognize you do not want it to be any baby. our boy has been on his best behavior lately and has not set off too many bells. But he has his moments as well. Those are extremely hard for his mom and me to watch. As scary as the nicu is, the nurses are on the ball and never seem too frazzled. They just remind us that babies speak with their actions not with their words. I wanted to thank you guys for your prayers. They have been answered in so many ways. Not only in our boy's health, but also in the manner in which God has cared for his mom and me through this situation. There really are not any huge updates on our boy at this moment. He has stayed very calm and steady for the last two days. The next major issue we need to overcome continues to be his lungs. They are still showing a bit of fluid, and if it progresses, the doctors will have to switch him to a slightly more aggressive respirator to clear it up. We really do not want that to happen. So, all of you prayer warriors, please pray that our boy's lungs clear up soon, and pray the he is able to be taken off the respirator completely. Thank you guys so much and please know that you are the ones that are holding us up at this time.
please continue to pray with us and believe on behalf of this family and baby for the following::

  1. continued development in his lungs, specifically for no fluid
  2. consistent weight gain
  3. peace, rest, comfort, and nearness of the Lord for the parents as they stand by his side
also, many of you have expressed desire to help in whatever way you can (beyond prayer) - if you are interested in that, please let me know by leaving a comment or contacting me.

the one about baby boy

dear friends, please join me in praying for a dear friend of mine (and co-worker of mine at the Summit). my friend is pregnant with her first child - she's 26 weeks. yesterday they were admitted to the labor & delivery ward at wake med raleigh due to extremely high blood pressure. they will need to deliver her baby boy within the next 24 hours.

this is obviously very early and sudden. my friend and her husband however are very hopeful and remaining very positive. they are amazed at the Lord's faithfulness to them already and are trusting Him through this scary time.

please pray for continue peace and rest for them. pray that they will continue to lean on the Lord during this time and trust in Him. (He is before all things and in Him all things hold together) pray for them to continue to believe that the Lord's promises for them are good and He loves baby boy more than we could every imagine.

practically pray for my friend to remain stable and for her to be able to have a spinal block when they deliver. also pray for them to be able to wait maybe even another 24 hours before they need to deliver the baby to give him more time to develop. pray that the Lord will continue to sustain his life.

ill give you more updates as they come! my friend is such a sweet friend and i am so encouraged by her faith and hope in Christ during this time... the text i received from her this morning said "i cant wait to tell you how He has been so faithful"... praise God.

the one for your blog

i just wanted to throw some tips out there for all you new bloggers or for those who don't like technology and try to know as little as possible :)

there are some great FREE sites where you can find some really cute FREE blog backgrounds and even headers. ((i will warn you, customizing your own header even from an already made template is much more complicated than just getting a cute background :) ))

ive listed some sights below that i would suggest. when you go to download one of their designs, they will give you step by step instructions on how to do it - but if you have any trouble, feel free to ask me and id love to help you out!

they way i approach my blog design is that it is an ever evolving work-in-progress. i just changed my header but that doesn't mean that i won't change it again in a month! i don't really like the whole "change your background every season/holiday of the year" trend...but i think it's fun to keep your blog looking fresh and fun and reflective of your style. i also like really simple, pretty backgrounds that let your writing & posts take center stage without distracting craziness going on behind.

my new header - for now :)

1. http://thecutestblogontheblock.com/

a favorite from there

2. http://shabbyblogs.com/ (this is where i got my background)

really like this new one

3. http://hotbliggityblog.com/

pretty green pattern

so there are my tips! :) let me know if you have any questions!

the one about trust

lately, ive found myself giving advice to others about the very thing i need to hear most. i was in the middle of telling someone recently that they can trust their loved ones into the care of the Lord...they don't need to worry or try to fix the situation because our God is not only able but He knows what is good.

it seems i had forgotten how badly i needed to heed my own advice. i have the hardest time trusting the ones i love most to the Lord. my sisters being far away from home, whenever any family member is in pain or hurting, when someone is sick, even just when my close friends (or sisters) are dating someone i am unsure about - it is hard for me to not want to control the situation. somehow ive fallen into the misconception that i know what is best and that i can fix it.

so instead of resting in the promises of the Lord (He will never leave them nor forsake them; His plans are good & perfect; He is sovereign; He loves them more than i could ever know; He is good and what He does is good; He strengethens the weak; He is near to the broken-hearted), i work myself up into a frenzy, grasping at anything i can do to "help"....when what i need to do most is sit. be still. and TRUST.

and not just trust but trust in God. (things i try to trust instead:: my own wisdom, the situation, people around me, money, my health, my feelings, other people's thoughts & rationale...)

so to train my mind to trust in God at all times, i am trying to memorize some key, pointed passages of Scripture, that i thought id share here. i pray the Lord will teach me through them to sit at His feet, cast all my burdens on Him, and to trust that He is able.
trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. {proverbs 3:5}
trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. {isaiah 26:4}
trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land of safe pasture. {psalm 37:3 niv}
blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. {jeremiah 17:7}
the Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and i am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him. {psalm 28:7}
i will say to the Lord, “my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom i trust." {psalm 91:2}

DIY Pennant Banner

Y'all I am so proud of myself. Let me just tell you that I have had this beautiful fabric (an old tablecloth I can't use anymore) laying around and I've been dying to use it to make something pretty out of it! And it's such a pretty fall pattern that I knew I needed to do something soon.

Isn't it pretty?

Soooo I tried making two no-sew pillow covers for some throwpillows for the couch. But it was such an epic fail. There is no photographic evidence because I spent like 2 hours on them and I was SO frustrated at the end that I just threw away the fabric I had ruined and tried to forget about it.

But you know I couldn't just FORGET about that beautiful, unused remaining fabric. I just didnt know what I could do with it.

And then it hit me. It came to me on Wednesday evening, as if in a vision. I could make a pennant banner out of it!! dla;kfjadsfijdalkf Imagine me jumping up and down in my room by myself :)

So I got to work. First I measured a triangle (6" x 6.5" x 6.5") out of cardstock and then used that to trace 10 triangles in the fabric.
Step one & two.
Of course I had to use matching cardstock paper :)

I had some FRIENDS keeping me company in the background...

Then I cut out the triangles carefully so I didnt fray the edges
(Note: these edges are not frayed...there are just some scraps laying near them)

Then I made my letters in photoshop (Typewriter font, duh...the best)
And printed them out!

Cait was coaching me through it the whole time - Awesome!
It really felt like she was here with me!!

Then I glued on the letters with rubber cement and clipped the pennants onto some twine with baby clothespins (Is there anything cuter than baby clothespins??)

I am so so happy with how it turned out! I love how the red pitcher compliments the banner so well and most of all, I love the emphasis it places on Thanksgiving this month! :) Success!

lately i have been l.o.v.i.n.g. some organizational tips/photos. im not ocd but i definitely have some tendencies :) i wanted to share some fun ideas i've discovered all over and pinned on pinterest.  i also just found a blog from a friend that i am becoming quite obsessed with: IHeart Organizing. this girl can whip some mess into shape! its a mixture of intimidating/inspiring :)

one of my favorite projects on her site:
her boys' closet

put your already opened paint into these mason jars and label the lids! it's so much prettier and easier to identify.
