the one looking for a house

Rob and I are in the process of looking for a house to buy! It's a really exciting (and slightly overwhelming)  endeavor :) We've been planning this for some time and have been saving our pennies for months and months.

One of the first things we did when starting to plan for buying a house was to make a list of all the things that we were looking for in our little House o' Dreams (my affectionate name for it - props to Anne of Green Gables).

But before I dive into that and share our lists, I want to preface it by saying that the MOST important thing we are looking for in a house is for it to be in a strategic location for our ministry. We really want to minister to the poor and underserved so that's what we are most excited about in our new home. We want to use it to serve our neighborhood and community first and foremost.

But practically, there are some things we know we "need" and "would like" for our home. So we made a list of things that are non-negotiable, and then some things that we strongly prefer. Check it out:

Obviously some of those are more manageable than others :) For the potential/potentially - we just mean that we could make a kitchen more open with some renovations and that if it doesn't have backyard area, we can make one.

These are all pretty self-explanatory. Some are just dreams we've always wanted in our house (bay window, vaulted ceilings, stone walkway, pretty tree) and some are more functional/important - basement, big front porch, decent schools, garage. We'll see what the ole' House o' Dreams brings us!

So does anybody have any suggestions? I'd love to hear what you found to be most important in your first home - maybe some things that weren't on our list that you think we should add. I'd love your advice!

We are so excited to see where the Lord takes us!

  1. i Lol'ed thinking about you finding a great house but saying...nope doesn't have rocking breaker :o) So excited to see what you find! My only suggestion is since you have so much on your must have list, maybe rate it in order of importance so you know what the main standouts are that you need.

  2. Ironically kaylee and I have started looking at the possibility of finding a house to buy as well. I am going to recommend a realtor who we are going to use through the process. His name is Van Fletcher and his website is simply He is good friends with my boss John White and is a great guy. Just figured I would throw it out there. Good luck with everything! We should double date sometime.
